English Advertising Pots Added to Redeemed Vintage Treasures

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Good morning,

i have exciting news!  With my daughter moving to London I have been busy sourcing several suppliers for Vintage and Antique English Avdertising Pots, inks, ginger beers, apothecary bottles and other curiosities from the 1800’s to the early 1900’s. I started collecting these charming little pots when we lived in England 30 years ago.  You all have always wanted to purchase mine, but I wasn’t ready to part with them.  Well that has all changed!

I now have over 200 of these charming pieces, with shipments coming weekly from Europe.  Are you interested?   Did you know that you can come shopping all year round, not just at my shows?  Yes, I have friends, designers, shop keepers, Redeemed Vintage Show Faithfuls visiting and treasure hunting several times a week all year round.  (when I’m not out of town  hunting that is😉). I Love it!   Do you want to come shopping?  Would you like to bring your friends for a girls day out?  I would love to hear from you.   Email me, for all the particulars.   You won’t be disappointed.

Guest Room Makeover

Did you happen to see these beautiful French twin beds on Mary of Urban Farmgirl’s blog here?

matching French twin beds from Urban Farmgirl

I had been dreaming about a set of twin beds like these for about three years!  I had even begun to collect the bedding for them when I saw doubles of items on sale!  Am I the only one that does that?  Anyway, when I saw these on Mary’s Blog I immediatly knew I wanted them and sent Mary an e-mail trying to claim them as sold (to me)!  Mary has thousands of followers on her blog and she told me she did in fact still have them,  but there was another gal wanting them badly too.  To make a long story short, the beds are mine and I am thrilled with them.   This purchase started my guest room makeover!

We had a room upstairs in our home that was one of those extra rooms that went from the homeschooling room when my daughter home schooled, to the e-bay selling product storage and shipping prep room, to the most recent state of toss all the cast off junk room.

to this:

vintage cameras and binoculars in worn leather cases

wanted guests to know they could set there luggage on each side of the trunks….traced definition of luggage and painted right onto the piece

opportunity to use this vintage Louis Vuitton suitcase I had found treasure hunting at Savers…filled to the brim with guest towels

vintage leather suitcases and wicker storage cases …. love the texture these add

old organ front turned wall art with Paris map wrapping paper Modge Podged onto a framed canvas hanging under it

corned filled with basket of pillows and other textured objects

ready for house guests!

I’m so excited to have another functioning guest room!  Once the beds were in place I probably made 30 trips down to my basement where my Redeemed Vintage showroom is located to raid it for accessories.  Which ones you ask?  All of the leather suitcases, all of the wicker baskets, the hotel silver bowl full of toiletries on the desk, the gilded fur chair, the awesome brass lamp with black shade (I love that lamp!!!) the cute little ironstone bowls on the desk, the industrial bin under the French vanity stool, the French vanity bench (really that never even made it into the shop!), the vintage camera’s and binoculars in leather cases, the copper wall art/tray over the stacked trunks!

I want to give a shout out to my daughter,  Michelle (my own personal visionary!), for all the great inspiration images and ideas she sent me to make the room inviting to girls and boys, men and women!  I could have made it so girly with those fantastic beds from Urban Farmgirl!

I would love to hear your thoughts.  I have been busy replenishing my accessories, painting and upholstering several new items for my next sale.  If you like the kinds of things that I used in this guest room makeover, you may want to come to my next Redeemed Vintage by Invitation Sale Event.  Send me an e-mail if you would like to be added to my guest list.

Picture Show Before First Redeemed Vintage Sale Event

Here is a glimpse of the “showroom” ready for the big event.   It was so exciting to see so many people arriving before the doors opened in anticipation of the treasures awaiting them!  We had “SOLD” tags to hand out before we headed into the sale… fun to watch the excitement as items were being snatched up and SOLD signs were getting attached to so many pieces!   It was a bit of a frenzy, of the very best sort!

Loaded Up with All the Annie Sloan Chalk Paints and Waxes

Wow, so much fun.   I so appreciate all the support I received from my family and friends.  I hope to see you at the next show.   Do you see something here that you might be interested in?  If you are in the Chicagoland area, shoot me a note and I will let you know if it is still available. While quite a lot is sold, and sales were even better than I expected….many of the big pieces are still available.    Would love to hear your thoughts.

Latest Craigslist Find - A Keeper that I had Mirrored Professionally

These doors came from a mansion in Glencoe, IL, that had all the doors replaced.  Glencoe is a beautiful north shore community.  They are 8 feet tall and 50 inches wide and fit perfectly on a blank wall in my family room.

Beginning to feel festive here at home.  I try to add some outside shots later this week.  Watch for photos for the show coming Friday.

Latest Great Finds and a Finished Project

Hi there, last week I really hit the jackpot at our local Goodwill shop.  I have been collecting green bottles and displaying them on an industrial piece that I picked up last spring.  My daughter Michelle, who has wonderful decorating taste,  has been incorporating industrial pieces into her home and I just love how it adds a modern edge to her rooms.  After seeing her place, I wanted to get that look too :)  I had been on the lookout for pieces that I could  incorporate into my house when I  came across this enormous shelving unit at the antique flea market.  It came from a furniture manufacturing company ‘s warehouse that was closing its doors and selling its contents.

Great Find at the Lake County Flea Market for Family Room Makeover

I loved everything about it, especially its color.  I bought in and rolled it out to my SUV, then immediately panicked when I realized how big it was!  Oh my, what have I done?????   I didn’t seem quite that big inside the huge building I bought it in.  Thankfully,  I have a girlfriend whose husband has a pickup truck.  Lorrie usually comes to these flea markets with me,  so when I called she was so gracious and came right away to help me!  What a friend!    While I was waiting, I really was thinking maybe I made a mistake, shoot!  My fears were calmed when Lorrie immediately loved it too.  It barely fit into the truck bed, but with help from a couple of guys at the market, we got it in and drove very slowly all the way home.  When my husband saw it, he could hardly believe his eyes :)  He was visualizing it in the garage with all my loot on it, but he is a good sport and really does like it in our family room.

Notice the three large demijohns!  Yes, I found them at the Goodwill.   I love their texture.  What do you think?

Onto another project completed this week.  Have you noticed how retro chairs are on the comeback?

Wisteria on sale for $639 plus $150 shipping

A couple of weeks ago I found these two chairs when I was making my rounds at the resale shops.   There is something about this squared back and sleek arms that I really like!   What do you think?  Can you visualize them painted and with a new updated fabric?  Or are you just thinking B A D, Bad, bad?

side view, I like the cane and the shape of the legs too

I removed the piping and cushions and painted the frame with Annie Sloan Graphite paint and finished with Briwax Dark wax.  Huge improvement there…. next I  beefed up the cushions and  attached them directly to the chair instead of having loose cushions.    Here they are now in my basement/workroom/showroom combo…..

I didn’t have two matching colorful pillows, but I do like the pop of color on them.

What do you think?  I really like them.  Do you think the  shape is fantastic too?   I have a couple more chairs that are a similar shape that I still need to redo which will look great across from these two with that hugh ottoman in the middle.    Love to hear your thoughts.  Have a great week!

Ugly Picture Frame, Chicken Wire, Spray Paint

Good morning, today I am going to share a project that my partner Robbyn and I completed yesterday….Robbyn is 35 weeks pregnant and feeling highly motivated to get her house in order before this baby (boy #4) is born. I love helping her in that mission, we have so much fun pumping out these projects! Our partner Lorrie, has been in Texas for the last two weeks getting her daughter settled or she would be right here with us! So fun to work with these great friends!

The goal was to have a spot to hang the kids artwork, to be changed out on a weekly basis…….a spot that did not include the front of the refrigerator.

Here is what we created with a once ugly, huge, and inexpensive picture frame, chicken wire, and flat black spray paint:

finished piece in use right in the mudroom

with Robbyn....she is so cute

Finished Art Holder

The plan was to use clothes pins to clip the art onto the piece.  Did you notice the cute decorated clothes pins in the first photo, below is a close up of those pins.  I found those today at the cutest shop I came across in Barrington, IL, earlier today.  Such a great shop.  Tattered Tiques.   Details at   It looks so great!  Here are a few pictures of the work in progress.

close up of the cute clothes pins

We had purchased a bolt of chicken wire from our local True Value a few months ago to put inside the doors of Robbyn’s buffet.. seen here:

Once I made sure the wire was wide enough to fill the inside of the frame,  I laid the frame face down and stapled the wire to the back of the frame.  I pulled it as tight as it would go as I stapled so it would be tight.  Then using wire snippers I cut it to length.

We then taped off the linen inner frame so it would not get spray painted….and covered the chicken wire with old ugly wrapping paper I had in my storage room so that the chicken wire didn’t get painted either.

This is a really fun and easy project.  Makes me want to make another one!  Any thoughts?

Comfy Chair Reupholstered plus Kitchen Table and Chairs Makeover

Hi there,  first off I want to wish my daughter,  Michelle,  a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  You are such an inspiration, and I love you!

I have been working on several projects over the last week that I want to share with you tonight.   My partner,  Robbyn,  and I finished up this comfy chair and ottoman for the baby’s room.  Scroll down to see the before shots, and a couple of in-progress shots.

After shot – reupholstered chair & ottoman in nursery

before shot

I had just removed the piping and started painting the frame when I remembered to get a before shot!

removing the back

I removed all the piping and the back covering.  I left all the other fabric on the chair.  Sorry, I didn’t show each step,  but basically removing the back fabric is the hardest part of reupholstering a chair.  The front, and side fabric get tucked into the frame and stapled to the back.  There are some great tutorials showing step by step videos on ways to reupholster chairs.  These were really helpful, I watched a couple of those….ordered the supplies  I would need on e-bay, including the high end upholstery fabric (6 yards),….and muddled through getting it done.  Not perfect, but overall it looks sooooo cute.  Robbyn sewed up the cushion cover,  which was a first for her and it included a zipper, also a first!  We had so much fun working on this!

After doing all this work with this beautiful blue color, I decided to be bold and paint my kitchen set.  I have been thinking about doing something different with this set for several years now.   Since I have been doing all these makeovers my mom has been encouraging me to take on my kitchen set.  Here it is!

And here is the before look…

So…..what do you think?  Would love to hear your thoughts.

three more finished projects

I have been working on pieces of furniture for my girlfriend and partner, Robbyn.   Her family have recently moved into a new house and there are several things she has had me on the lookout for when I am out treasure hunting.  The first piece I am showing today is an ottoman to place within the comfy sectional that is in their basement family room.  Here is the redeemed and transformed piece!

more detail

As found shot

Quite a change huh?  Would you have bought it?  It was really clean and had no odor…Robbyn and I worked on this one together.  We cut off the old fabric, covered the cushion and base with batting and reupholstered.  The tricky part for me is always the corners, especially on a deep piece like this.  We placed the fabric over it and pinned the corners off.  We then ran a seam down each corner and clipped off all the extra fabric.  (doesn’t that sound easy?, it took two days… day to figure out how to use the sewing machine…the next to get the job done….I think we get it now :)  It looked like a slipcover, it fit snuggly right over the whole piece and we then attached it with staples…we then used tack strips around the upper and lower base unit to give it a more polished look.  I love the finished piece….really durable upholstery fabric that won’t show any stains (from three little, lively boys) and will coordinate great with her dark brown upholstered sectional.

The second find was this dresser for the new baby boy that is due in October:

Find number  3:  A small table/nightstand to place next to a chair to hold newborn baby supplies.

after shot of cute small bookcase/nightstand

Again, I forgot to get a before picture of this piece.  It was a dark brown stained piece with cute lines found at the Goodwill resale shop.  Perfect to put a couple of baskets in to store all the items you need when you have a newborn.  This is planned to go next to the chair that is in the process of being redeemed.  I hope to share that with you in the next few days.

Do you have any thoughts you would like to share?  Any ideas?

tables to benches

Do you ever look at something and see the potential of it being something different?  I purchased this vintage table thinking wow, this looks like the base of a bench that could go in an entry way, mud room, or even at the end of a bed.  What do you think?

Before Vintage Coffee Table

I also found these two little tables thinking the same thing.  These would be great in a living room, at the end of a bed, in a big walk in closet or stored under a sofa table as sitting options when you have a big group over.  I forgot to get a before shot….here is the after.  Any thoughts?  Would love to hear what you are thinking.

A Pair of Mid-Century Chairs

Hi there, today I thought I would share a few more of the items that I have been working on.

Here is the story on these cute mid-century chairs.  It was so crazy, I had gone to the resale shop on a Monday and picked up one of these great chairs. Loved it!  Right away I painted it with Annie Sloan Country Grey, waxed it with Dark Briwax and covered it in a neutral beige colored heavy weight linen.

I dropped by the resale shop again on Thursday and found the sister to this chair! I could not believe it, so exciting!  I hope it is obvious which chair I had already finished :)

Chair on the Left is the Before

Do you see the little wheels on the front legs? One of the many things I collect are vintage wheels….I happen to have 4 wheels that are a perfect fit. I think these chairs are so cute!

I thought this pair of chairs that were offered on One Kings Lane look so similar.  Any thoughts?

These beauties were sold on One Kings Lane..

Here is another chair that I just finished up.  I didn’t get a shot of the chair before I started working on it.  I am trying to do better is this area.   This next shot is after I had painted the entire chair in Annie Sloan Paris Grey and covered the seat in gray canvas.

And one more before and after.

Can you see the crackle finish and plastic covering

I sanded off all the crackle finish, painted with  Annie Sloan Chateau Grey Chalk Paint, then finished the frame with a dark wax.  I then upholstered the seat and back in a heavy flax linen in a natural color and then changed it up with a different coordinating flax linen upholstery fabric on the back.

Love this fabric.  I have started collecting a variety of really high quality upholstery fabrics from a couple of great sellers on E-bay.  I love these thick flax linens!  Any thoughts?

Before and Afters

I thought I would share a few of the before and after pictures of pieces that I have recently worked on.  These I have loved so much that you will see them incorporated into our living space.

When I saw this chair at a local resale shop I really thought it had a lot of potential.   The fabric was stained and dated, but I loved the shape.  I had never reupholstered a large chair before, but I thought I could figure it out.   For some unknown reason I didn’t feel intimidated.  I Googled “upholstering French chair” and found Miss Mustard Seed’s blog giving a step by step tutorial.  Fantastic!  I followed her instructions, she really makes it look easy, and honestly it is!

I had purchased a big remnant of full grain leather (5 ounce) and the upholstery tacks a couple weeks before to cover a little stool that I had purchased.  The piece was shockingly big and there was plenty left over from the little stool to do the whole back of the chair.  The individual tacks are tricky to work with, they seem to shift at the last second.  I have since started using the tack strips that only use a real tack every fourth tack….but I used what I had for this project.   I don’t sew, so I had the cushion professionally finished and overstuffed with down.

Finding Miss Mustard Seeds blog in the process of redoing this chair has really inspired me to take on more and more projects.

My dining room has really benefited from all the inspiration.  Once Miss Mustard Seed (MMS) starting sharing her work with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paints I wanted to try them in this room.  Here are more before and after projects.

I love the way this room has shaped up.  I have hung the mirrors since these shots were taken.   My daughter, Michelle, suggested that I paint the walls behind the 3 piece unit black to make it pop.  I love that idea and have purchased the paint, I just haven’t found the energy to move everything to get back there.  Painting a piece of furniture or recovering a chair is more appealing for now.  I have it on the list though.  Any thoughts?  I would love to hear your comments.
