This is a listing for one (1) Brown & Polson’s Corn Flour Blanc-Mange Jelly /Pudding Mold. The Image listed is the pot you will receive. So charming with the recipe listed on the front of the mold. This is one of my favorite pieces that I brought home from my favorite market in England.
A little history:
Brown & Polson corn flour is one of the oldest surviving grocery brands in Britain.
John Polson (1800 – 1843), William Polson (1810 – 1893) and John Brown (1806 -1889) merged their starch manufacturing interests in 1842 to form Brown & Polson with a factory at Thrushcraigs, Paisley.
Brown & Polson had been appointed starch manufacturer to Queen Victoria by 1853.
John Polson Jr (1825 – 1900) discovered a method for manufacturing pure starch from maize, which he called corn flour. He patented the process in 1854. It was the first corn flour to be manufactured in Britain.
These incredibly charming pots vary slightly in shape and size as each piece was handmade. This pot has no chips or cracks. Very good antique condition.
Most pots have some level of crazing , may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that only add to its character and do not detract from its display value. These are expected due to age, use and let’s not forget they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
I offer substantial savings in shipping costs when multiple items are combined into one package. I work hard to find the most economical shipping options available by checking multiple discount carriers.
I will credit any overpayment of postage charged to you after finding the best shipping option. I check both ParcelMonkey.com and Shipgooder.com for the most economical delivery to save you shipping dollars. These companies negotiate better rates with USPS, Fed Ex and UPS than individuals can on their own.
