This is a listing for one (1) RARE – ROE’S ROSEBUD PATENT Advertising Pie Vent c. 1900. It is in overall good condition with only a small flat scrape under the “hat” as pictured; a very small chip at the base on right side and a stable hairline on the rear side of the “hat”.   Crazing and other age appropriate marks giving it a one-of-kind patina.

The funnel was inserted into the center of the pie underneath a small hole in the pastry lid. It allowed for steam to escape from the pie as the filling heated up. This prevented it from bubbling up and breaking the pastry lid. Additionally it helped prevent the pie from drying out and kept the filling intact.

Most pots have some level of crazing, may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that only add to its character and do not detract from its display value.  These are expected due to age, use and let’s not forget they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
