This is a listing for one (1) RARE The “Grimwade” Perfection Pie Funnel c. 1900. It is in good condition with a chip to the base as pictured.  This is the first of this variety I have ever offered.  Beautiful green transfer reads:

THE ‘”GRIMWADE”

PERFECTION PIE FUNNEL

   WITH VERGE ON THE TOP

TO PREVENT PASTRY SLIPPING

GRIMWADES ENGLAND

Crazing, fleabites and other age appropriate marks giving this rare find a one-of-kind patina.

The funnel was inserted into the center of the pie underneath a small hole in the pastry lid. It allowed for steam to escape from the pie as the filling heated up. This prevented it from bubbling up and breaking the pastry lid. Additionally it helped prevent the pie from drying out and kept the filling intact.

Most pots have some level of crazing, may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that only add to its character and do not detract from its display value.  These are expected due to age, use and let’s not forget they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
