Offering this F. Cramptons Home Made Potted Meats – Southport with its Sepia (reddish brown) transfer, c.1900. It reads:
F. CRAMPTONS
NOTED HOME MADE POTTED MEAT
PREPARED FROM ENGLISH MEAT ONLY
SPECIALLY SUITED TO INVALIDS AND AGED PERSONS
PORTLAND ST. SOUTHPORT
This suggests it would have been marketed as a gentle, easily digestible food. Potted meat was a popular preserved food — minced cooked meat mixed with fat (like clarified butter or lard) to keep it from spoiling before refrigeration was common.
This antique shallow pot is in very good condition with one minor chip on the top rim and no cracks. The sepia color is harder to find in these shallow dishes.
Measures Approximately 3 1/2″ diameter x 1 ½” Tall
Beautiful graphics on this special pot. A perfect start or great addition to your Antique English Advertising Pot collection.
Please consider the images as the best part of my description.
Most pots have some level of crazing, may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that should be considered patina, additions to character and do not detract from its display value. Â These are expected due to age, they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
