This listing is for one E. Standing Ltd. Antique English Stone cream pot c.1880. This pot is in great condition with beautiful coloring made in Harrogate, England, which was a spa town. There is a very slight hairline crack starting on the inside top lip extending down into the inside of the base for a short distance.
Edward Standing was initially a grocer who opened his business in1883 at the corner of James St. and Station Square in the town of Harrogate. He quickly built his business into one of the most successful businesses in town by expanding his high quality grocery store (where the customer was seated while their order was filled) to include a cafe and bakery. The store also included a smoking and chess room in the basement and was called Edward Standing Ltd., Grocery and Provisions Stores. It closed its doors in1982 after almost 100 years, and is still remembered today for its high quality service to the community. You will see the company name incised on the side of the base.
Most pots have some level of crazing, may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and chips in the back or side. Little fleabites too that only add to its character and do not detract from its display value. These are expected due to age, use and they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
