Antique Victorian R. Hendrie & Co. Perfumers Pot Lid – Tichborne Street London Cold Cream Jar Top, c. 1890

$69.00

1 in stock

A rare and beautifully preserved Victorian-era ceramic pot lid from R. Hendrie & Co., Perfumers, located on Tichborne Street, London. This lovely piece of 19th-century advertising stoneware once sealed a jar of cold cream or scented pomade and now serves as a unique decorative relic from the golden age of British apothecary and perfumery.

The lid features bold black transfer print lettering on white glazed ceramic and a delicate pie-crust edge.

R. Hendrie & Co. was a perfumery operating in London during the Victorian period, a time when elaborate product packaging was a hallmark of premium toiletry goods. These lids were used to seal ceramic pots containing products like cold cream, tooth paste, pomade, or scented salves. The pots were often discarded after use, and these decorative lids have been dug up after over 100 years in the ground.

The lid is in very good age appropriate condition with no chips and one thin hairline crack on the front lower left. The base is also in good condition with significant age coloring with no chips or cracks. Please view the images for your best description of the great button top.

Each of these Antique English Advertising pots vary slightly in shape and size as they were each handmade, adding to their charm. Please consider the images as your best description for all of my items.

This is an authentic antique advertising pot sourced during my recent buying trip to England. I have been sourcing these wonderful antique pots for over 12 years from sources who are actually digging them up in ancient rubbish sites all over England. I purchased my first antique Advertising pot when my husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to live in England in the 1980’s. Our daughter was born there and we enjoyed living in England so much we often went back to visit after returning to the US.

Interestingly, this same daughter’s husbands job moved them to London were we have enjoyed visiting our grandchildren and traveling the countryside antiquing.

On our many visits we have became friends with many of the “diggers” excavating the ancient dumpsites all over the UK and now source thousands of pots from them every year. I still love the charm they add to every room they are placed in.
