This antique Dr. Nelson’s Improved Inhaler, is a type of ceramic inhaler used in the 19th and early 20th centuries for steam inhalation therapy. These were commonly used for respiratory ailments like colds, asthma, and other breathing issues. This inhaler is an earlier version with the print style and the more detailed instructions.
Dr. Nelson’s inhaler’s were designed to be filled with hot water and medicinal additives like menthol or eucalyptus. The user would inhale the steam through the mouthpiece to help clear congestion.

Directions for Use
Remove mouthpiece, half fill inhaler with boiling water.
Drop remedy on sponge of mouth-piece, apply lips to it.
Breathe freely in and out as in ordinary full respiration.
When only the vapour of hot water or any infusion is desired, remove the sponge from mouthpiece.
Very good, clean condition with beautiful, crisp black transfer and one chip on the bottom of the spout . Please view the images for the best description.

This is an authentic antique advertising pot sourced during my recent buying trip to England. I have been sourcing these wonderful antique pots for over 12 years from sources who are actually digging them up in ancient rubbish sites all over England. I purchased my first antique Advertising pot when my husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to live in England in the 1980’s. Our daughter was born there and we enjoyed living in England so much we often went back to visit after returning to the US.
Interestingly, this same daughter’s husbands job moved them to London were we have enjoyed visiting our grandchildren and traveling the countryside antiquing.
On our many visits we have became friends with many of the “diggers” excavating the ancient dumpsites all over the UK and now source thousands of pots top down from them every year. I still love the charm they add to every room they are placed in.
