Two tone Ginger Beer bottles from the late 19th century, sold as set, both with stoppers.
A. The Doctors Stout, Bottled by Ross & Co., 1 George Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Ross was
a bottler rather than a brewer, specializing in bottling stout, porter, and mineral waters. “The Doctor’s Stout” was a trademarked brand name suggesting strength or health benefits — a common Victorian marketing tactic.
This bottle is in good condition, with a thin hairline crack on the front and some scattered age marks. Measures: 8” tall x 2 1/4” wide
B. R. Emmerson Jun., 1, George Street, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Also a local bottler/distributor operating in the same era. “Jun.” indicates Junior. The cyclist image was a registered trade mark associated with “The Doctor’s” brand. Cycling imagery symbolized vitality, endurance, and modern health in the 1890s cycling boom.
The bottle is in good condition with a chip on the bottom front side right as shown. Measures Approximately – 8” tall x 2 1/2” diameter at base
These charming bottles
would be a great neutral addition to your Antique English Advertising Pot collection. Please study the images as they represent the exact bottle you will receive.
Most pieces have some level of crazing, may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that should be considered patina, additions to character and do not detract from its display value. These are expected due to age and use as they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
These are authentic antique advertising bottles sourced during my recent buying trip to England. I have been sourcing these wonderful antique pots for over 12 years from sources who are actually digging them up in ancient rubbish sites all over England. I purchased my first antique Advertising pot when my husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to live in England in the 1980’s. Our daughter was born there and we enjoyed living in England so much we often went back to visit after returning to the US.
Interestingly, this same daughter’s husbands job moved them to London were we have enjoyed visiting our grandchildren and traveling the countryside antiquing.
On our many visits we have became friends with many of the “diggers” excavating the ancient dumpsites all over the UK and now source thousands of pots from them every year. I still love the charm they add to every room they are placed in.
Returns are not accepted on these rare authentic pieces but please contact if you have any questions
