A wonderful antique chemist’s / apothecary storage jar bearing the decorative black transfer-printed mark:
“Duncan, Flockhart & Co. Ltd – Edinburgh and London”
Duncan, Flockhart & Co. was a historic Scottish pharmaceutical firm with roots in 19th-century Edinburgh. The company became particularly well known for the manufacture of chloroform and was associated with the pioneering introduction of chloroform anaesthesia by Scottish physician James Young Simpson in 1847.
This substantial cream-glazed earthenware jar has a strong pharmaceutical appearance, with its ceramic lid and attractive black typography and flourishes to the front.
The base is in good condition with a solid transfer in tact, one chip on the i side rim and three chips on the bottom. There is a nice English patent incised on the bottom. The lid is in good condition, with two chips on the bottom rim.
This charming pot and its uniquely large size for an apothecary pot is a great choice to enhance your advertising pot collection.

Most pots have some level of crazing , may have spots of discoloration, light hairline cracks and minor chips and fleabites that only add to its character and do not detract from its display value. These are expected due to age, use and let’s not forget they were often buried for decades before being dug up and rescued.
