A fascinating and increasingly scarce piece of early public health history, this original ceramic “Pine-Ypta” Automatic Disinfector was manufactured by Taylors Automatic Disinfector Ltd., Liverpool, England and dates to the Edwardian period, circa 1910–1925.

Designed for use in schools, hospitals, railway stations, factories, and public buildings, these wall-mounted disinfectors slowly released the proprietary Pine-Ypta disinfectant to help deodorize and sanitize interior spaces. This unit retains its original printed markings, which read:

• “The Pine-Ypta Automatic Disinfector”
• Patent No. 6840/10
• Registered Design No. 559400
• Taylors Automatic Disinfector Ltd., Liverpool

This piece with its distinctive shaped lid is a wonderful example of early twentieth-century sanitary ware and industrial design. It would make a unique addition to any collection of medical antiques, apothecary items, advertising memorabilia, industrial artifacts, or unusual English ceramics.
This pot is in good condition with with some fade on the print, age related coloring and marbling, and no chips. Please study the images as the best description for this piece.

This pot is an authentic antique advertising pot, sourced during my recent buying trip to England. I have been sourcing these wonderful antique pots for over 12 years from friends who are actually digging them up in ancient rubbish sites all over England.

I purchased my first antique Advertising pot when my husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to live in England in the 1980’s. Our daughter was born there and we enjoyed living in England so much we often went back to visit after returning to the US.

On our many visits to the UK we have became friends with many of the “diggers” excavating the ancient dumpsites all over the UK. We now source thousands of pots from them every year to offer to our many individual customers as well as several boutique shops across the US. I still love the charm these antique pieces add to every room they are placed in.
